Housing struggles in Athens at the intersection of crises
Housing struggles in Athens attain a more dispersed form, than other initiatives in the European South. They tend to be short-lived and quite particular in their claims, as they arise in a reactive manner, mostly as a form of defence or resistance to specific events, formal policies and/or their repercussions upon everyday life, access to housing and housing costs.
Notwithstanding the limitations that their short life-span and specificity of claims levies upon their potential, housing struggles in Athens still play an important role in defending and resignifying the right to housing.
As analysed in the report on housing struggles in Athens, this became particularly evident since the 2010 financial crisis but also during the subsequent continuum of crises that followed, including the so-called refugee crisis, the covid crisis and the present cost-of living or polycrisis.
